Last summer (2017) we trialed standard organic soy feed vs. standard organic soy-free vs. ‘new’ Fertrell soy-free blend. The soy-free chickens, both the standard organic soy-free, and the ‘new’ Fertrell soy-free blend were pretty disappointing. You can read more about that 2017 trial.
So we did it again. This time with just two different types of feed; the standard organic soy feed and the Fertrell soy-free blend. We raised them in the early part of the summer, so neither cold nor heat were an issue.
Here’s the report in it’s entirety. poultry-feed-trials-2018
The conclusion was that chickens fed the soy-free blend took longer to get to weight, had a higher mortality rate, and had a higher feed to carcass ratio.
