Merry Christmas!
I’m pleased to announce the arrival of one of my best litters of piglets yet here on the farm. It’s really important to not let a sow get too fat as she gets close to farrowing (giving birth) or any other part of her life cycle as this can cause complications in the birthing process. I’ve been learning that over the last two years, and this litter of piglets is evidence of improvement in that area.
Husking Garlic by the woodstove to add to our pig feed as a natural dewormer. As a result of using Garlic and other natural products like black walnut husks and vinegar, worms are not a problem in our pigs and therefore, we do not need the use of chemical dewormers. Chemically deworming is a common practice in conventional livestock systems, which are producing the majority of the public food supply .

Also of interest: As a result of the holidays, the restaurants we source appear to be slowing down faster than we anticipated. This means we have a few hogs available from the pasture. Contact us before Thursday, December 8th if you would like to have a whole or half hog in your freezer before Christmas. Your Christmas ham will never be the same again.
